Arenal Volcano National Park
The Arenal Volcano National Park is located in the north region of the country, north of "Sierra de Tilarán". It belongs to the Tilarán, San Carlos and San Ramón counties.
It was establish by means of Executive Decree No. 20791-MIRENEM on September 30, 1991. Its extension is 2.920 hectares.
It is considered like a very important hydro source, which feeds the Arenal Lake, it is used to produce hydro electric energy and for different agriculture projects on the Riego de Moravia district.
This park protects important species of flora and fauna commonly found at the rainy forest and at the cloudy forest, each of great scientific and tourist values.
Park Facilities and Hours
The visitors center near the Arenal volcano has an auditorium, an exhibition hall, a souvenir store, and restrooms. Marked hiking trails lead to various points of interest and scenic overlooks (see trail map above) Arenal Costa Rica National Parks.
